We had not pulled out the liquid watercolors in a while, so the girls were really excited to make some coffee filter creations. The liquid watercolors are very vibrant, so I always dilute them with water. We did the usual dropper method:
We also tried a little crayon resist. The girls drew on the filter with a white crayon before adding watercolor, which turned out really cool:
But, our favorite was folding and dipping to make tie-dyed coffee filters. We did this until we ran out of filters! Just fold the filter in half over and over again, then dip each end in a color. For a third color, we folded our little triangle in half, and dipped again.
I need to think of something fun to do with these now. Any ideas?
By the way, I was sure our hands were going to be stained for days — but after a soak in the tub, all hands were back to normal!
Happy playing!

Fun!
We use ours along with some pipecleaners to make butterflies and flowers…
I just HAVE to do this with my boys. I know they would love it. I would poke a couple of holes in the top of each of them and then string them together to make a festive banner.
I was thinking the same thing as Heather..making a banner for the yard and having a little party outside!
Maybe you could make some matching tie dye shirts to wear?
WOW – I love the tie dye ones! I keep reading about these liquid water colors…we are going to need to check them out.
Here is what we did with our colored filters:

I would use them for notebook covers, they are worth keeping.
Or maybe plastify- laminate them and use them as place mats?
So beautiful and easy! Thanks.
Wow! I love this idea. I’ll have to try something like this with my 19 month old.
The tie die coffee filters are so fun! Whenever my kids make a ton of something beautiful I hate to throw it out no matter how many months later. We hang a few of them and then I hustle the rest down to the basement to use for wrapping paper for gifts.
I would have these strung up across the room. They are so pretty!
