I have used this idea with a large class of four year olds. I use a variation though. I am concerned about havning messes with watching so many little ones. So I use "washable" markers and a water spray bottle. The students color on the coffee filter with the markers and then we mist them. They are pleasantly surprised how the colors run together. They always come out neat. We have made flowers and butterflies. I am going to do the book idea this year too because we emphasis books in my class.
