This weekend I finally had time to load our bookshelf with autumn books – apples, pumpkins, leaves, and a few not-too-scary Halloween stories.
Here’s a few of our favorites:
Plumply, Dumply Pumpkin by Mary Serfozo
The Apple Pie Tree by Zoe Hall
Too Many Pumpkins by Linda White
Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf by Lois Ehlert
Scarecrow by Cynthia Rylant
We also really enjoy Pumpkin Circle: The Story of a Garden, both the book and the video. The photographs of a pumpkin’s life cycle are fantastic! The book is available on Amazon, and the live-action video of a backyard pumpkin patch (narrated by Danny Glover & music by George Winston) is available on the Pumpkin Circle website.
What story does your family enjoy reading for autumn?

we enjoy Barbara Rainey’s Thanksgiving a Time to Remember
Apple to Oregon had been a huge hit around here lately! We also enjoy Pumpkin Jack.
We love Pumpkin Day, Pumpkin Night by Anne Rockwell!
It makes me want to hit the Farmer’s Market and pick out the perfect pumpkin…which is exactly what we did over the weekend!
Thanks for posting all these books, I am always on the look out for good kid books. Also, I was wondering where you got your book rack, it’s really cute.
I like that bookshelf. Where did you get it?
One of our favorites is How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World, but we have more. Thanks for sharing your list!
I bought a cute book at the apple orchard we visited this weekend…”Our Apple Tree” by Goerel Kristina Naeslund. It has the sweetest illustrations in it.
Oh wow I need to get an autumn book collection going! What great ideas!
Our new fall favorite is The Little Yellow Leaf by Carin Berger

As all the other leaves float off and fly past, Little Yellow Leaf thinks, I’m not ready yet.
As the seasons change all around, Little Yellow Leaf holds on to the tree. Still not ready.
Will Little Yellow Leaf ever be ready?
This is a story for anyone who has ever been afraid of facing the unknown—and a celebration of the friends who help us take the leap.

Hi, I just want to personally invite you to submit to my Book Club Round UP! I love all your book recommendations!
I am trying to gather great minds on the web- people who recommend books for kids and who already post about books- to come to a central location where we can share our ideas with each other.
This is a new feature to my website: I hope you accept my invitation and take a look.
Sincerely,
Laura

We love Pumpkin Circle! Currently, my son can’t get enough of “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” and “Halloween ABC’s” (his favorite when he was a toddler that he now gets to share with his baby cousin =D).
