Independence. Problem solving. Empathy. Expressing emotions. Preschoolers have a lot going on in their little minds! The preschool years, generally ages 3-5, are a busy time for developing important social and emotional skills. As parents, teachers, and caregivers, we have the opportunity to provide engaging, play-based activities that allow children to develop a confident sense of self, problem-solving skills, and positive attitudes toward learning.
Starting Monday, I’ll be posting a five-part series on fun and easy ways to help your child improve emotional vocabulary, build feelings of competence, listen and follow directions, and much more! I’ll include some other resources (books, music, websites) that might be useful as well.
- Part 1: Curiosity, Invention, & Imagination
- Part 2: Initiative, Independence, & Responsibility
- Part 3: Listening & Following Directions
- Part 4: Problem Solving and Conflict Resolution
- Part 5: Regulating Emotions
I hope you will join me here on the blog for the entire series, and take the time to share your questions, tips, and ideas as well. I am always learning from other parents and teachers!

This will be a great series to jump-start my planning for summer activities! Also, my daughter has the same red and white striped Gymboree dress. Precious!
