Hello all! Happy Children’s Book Week!
I love pairing a great story with a fun activity. Here’s a story that was an instant hit in our house and continues to be a favorite: If I Built a Car by Chris Van Dusen.

This is a fun, imaginative story about a boy’s dream car. From a Plexiglas dome to a pool in the back, this car has it all. My girls especially love the Instant Snack Bar!

After reading this story, my girls are always eager to dream up their own unique and amazing cars. I made them some simple car-shaped blank books using a stencil for a template, where they can draw or write about their own car creations. I’m sure they will both include some sort of snack bar!

Happy reading and playing!

I LOVE Chris Van Dusen!! We have the book Down by the Sea with Mr. McGee and our girls love, love, love it!!! The wording is the best and the pictures are just icing on the cake! Love it.
We got this book from the library after your last post about it. My son’s favorite part? The Weinermobile. LOL
He’s still struggling with his fine motor skills, so I drew a humongous car outline for him on a large artists pad, and he filled in the details over a number of days.
