Counting the House

countthehouse

One of the girls’ favorite math activities this week was counting the house.  I gave them a list of various things around our home – windows, tables, chairs, bathtubs, etc. – and they had to go around the house counting and recording the numbers.  They loved it!  Somehow anything involving a clipboard is super-cool to them… :)

If you’d like to try this with your child, here’s our list to download and print.  Have fun!

What a GREAT idea! My first grader loves to count things and make little bar graphs — he’s going to go nuts for this!

Great idea and we hope you do not mind but we’ve added this activity to an upcoming post on our blog. It’s currently scheduled for Monday and we used the thumbnail of the PDF and linked directly to this post and cited this site with credit. Let us know if this is not permissible and we’ll remove it. Thanks!

I did something similar this last Summer. We “rated” playgrounds. We counted all the slides, ways to go up, ways to climb down, sand?, wood chips? spongy? 3 star ratings etc… This was a highlight for my older child (8), while the little one just simply enjoyed the park. When we had a free schedule we immediately thought, lets go find a new playground. Schools were our favorite.
