Gingerbread Fun!

We are going to do a bunch of gingerbread-themed stuff this week, since two of the girls’ favorite books right now are Gingerbread Baby and Gingerbread Friends by Jan Brett. I think it’s going to be a fun week! Here are the activities we have planned:

Sewing felt gingerbread boys and girls

Scavenger hunt with a map and clues for hidden paper gingerbread people

Gingerbread Baby Board Game at Jan Brett’s website (she has oodles of great coloring pages, activities, videos, etc. on her site!)

Gingerbread Glyph (instructions & template under Day 1 of the lesson plans)

Roll-a-Gingerbread Dice Game (scroll almost to the bottom of the page to see this activity)

Gingerbread Playdough

Paper Bag Gingerbread Village at Family Fun

Interactive Gingerbread Man Book at Starfall

Design Your Own Gingerbread House (Online Game) at Highlights Kids

Paper Bag Gingerbread Garland

We’ll also read a bunch of different Gingerbread Man stories to compare/contrast and write our own gingerbread stories, too!

Here’s a poem we’ll read and memorize – it’s a great one for doing with hand-motions, too. Download and print a Gingerbread Poem
for yourself!

Of course, the grand finale of the week will be gingerbread house and cookie making! Yippee!

Edited to add: There is a great Gingerbread Baby Lapbook at Homeschool Share, too – we’ll definitely be pulling from all the resources and activities there!

What are you up to this week? Any ideas for science activities that are gingerbread-y? :)
