Air-Dry Clay Hearts

by Amy on February 9, 2010

Today we had fun squishing, rolling, and cutting hearts made from air-dry clay.

We punched holes with straws, so we can give Valentine necklaces to some special friends – and we’ll keep some for ourselves, too!

We gently pressed in sparkly sequins – everyone agreed this was the best part!

We also made some little decorations and pendants, using rubber stamps to make impressions in the clay.

We left a few hearts blank so we can paint them tomorrow when they are finished drying (the air-dry clay takes 24 hours to dry).

You can find Crayola Model Magic at most craft stores.  I usually buy the Air Dry Putty at Discount School Supply – it’s a few dollars cheaper and works just as great!  My kids love the texture of the putty – it’s so lightweight and just different than playdough.

Tomorrow, we’ll show you our finished projects!

Happy Playing!

That is such a wonderful idea. I should do that with my daughter over the weekend. Thanks for sharing.

That is a great craft for our co-op. I think we’ll make these this weekend and maybe add glitter!

These hearts are so cute and very do-able I think for my kids who are 5 and almost 3. I wanted to do a Valentine craft together this weekend, and I think this is the one for us.

Love your website here!
Just want to let you know that I linked up to your post from a while ago about making puzzles out of greeting cards!

Oh, I never thought about using rubber stamps with clay! What an interesting idea. The sequins are great too, we’ve used beads before, but somehow the potential for other shiny bits didn’t occur to me, thanks!
