Lemons to Aid

by Amy on February 17, 2010

Melissa from Lemons to Aid contacted me to help spread the word about kids helping others and specifically, raising funds for Haiti.  From lemonade stands to cake walks to read-a-thons, Lemons to Aid provides ideas for many kid-friendly fundraisers that can empower your kids to help others in need.

Melissa says:

Lemons To Aid started when Hudson (my four year old son) asked me if we could sell lemonade and make a lemonade stand. I told him it was a great idea, but first I had to tell him a story. In an age appropriate way, I told him about the Haiti earthquake and what has happened to the people. He asked about the kids his age—did they lose their shoes, their toys. I told him they did and we could make a lemonade stand and send all the money to them. He was so excited! We made signs and set up our stand. It was a huge success!! We made $150 in 3 hours. We shared our story with others on Facebook, we set up a website and the word has started to spread!!! There have been fundraisers in Oakland, Los Angeles, Phoenix, San Antonio, Dallas, Plano, Atlanta, Tampa, New York City…and more!

Melissa is marking a spot on the map for each fundraiser held (you can let her know via Twitter or Facebook) – which state will fill up first?  If you are interested in doing something like this with your kids, head over to Lemons to Aid and check out all the ideas!
