At the end of the school year two years ago, the girls wrote “I’m so smart…” poems. It was a nice way to celebrate all the learning and growing over the past months.
We’re planning to write smart poems again this year, paired with photo collages of their favorite projects, books, and activities from the school year.
Simply start each line of the poem with I’m so smart I can… and write as many lines as you like!
Here are the girls’ poems from the end of Kindergarten and 1st Grade:

This poem idea is from the book For the Love of Language: Poetry for Every Learner by Nancy Cecil. I attended a workshop with Nancy many years ago and continue to use her book regularly for poem-writing inspiration. It contains scaffolds, frames, and sample student-created poems for a variety of interesting and fun poem styles. There are both beginner and intermediate poetry frames to choose from.
What are your kids proud of? Make a list and create your own I’m So Smart… poems!
